Footprints

One night a man had a dream. He dreamed he
was walking along the beach with the Lord.
Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each
scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand:
one belonging to him and the other to the Lord.

When the last scene of his life flashed before him,
He looked back at the footprints in the sand. He
noticed that many times along the paths of his life
there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed
that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in his life.

This really bothered him and he questioned the
Lord about it. “Lord, you said that once I decided to
follow you, you’d walk with me all the way. But I
have noticed that during the most troublesome times
in my life, there is only one set of footprints. I don’t
understand why when I needed you most you would leave me.”

The Lord replied, “My son, my precious child, I love
you and I would never leave you. During your times
of trials and suffering, when you see only one set of
footprints, it was then that I carried you.”

MARIA TYCHYJ
September 21, 1934 – December 8, 2013

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother and grandmother. Maria was predeceased by her husband, Bohdan, in the fall of this year.
Left to cherish Maria’s memory are her daughters Ola (Ellery) and Julie (Rob); and grandchildren Travis, Jasper, Brandon, and Evan.

Maria was born in Szyszkowce, Ukraine and came to Canada in 1950. She married her husband, Bohdan in 1953. They settled in Winnipeg in 1961 and have lived here ever since. Maria was a loving wife and mother. Mom was always there for her family, helping us out especially when her grandchildren were growing up. She was a very special Baba whose grandsons brought her endless joy. Mom and Baba will be sorely missed.
During her retirement, Maria and her husband loved spending time outdoors. Mom especially loved going for walks and feeding the neighborhood birds. Her garden was her pride and joy and could always be relied upon for a bountiful harvest. She was an accomplished seamstress and cook. Maria was a kind, caring, and gentle soul, who often put others ahead of herself.
A private family goodbye has been held.
The family would like to thank Palliative Care at St. Boniface Hospital for granting Maria’s wish to pass away peacefully.

WALTER CHOMOKOVSKI

Peacefully on Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at the age of 87 our Pop, Grandpa and Gigi passed away at Pinawa Hospital, surrounded by family, knowing he was loved.
Left to fondly remember Walter is his wife Olga of 60 years; son Ken (Kathy); daughter Charlene Okrainec (Burke); grandchildren Wade, Kayla and Erin; also Gary, Joann, Jennifer and Holly; sisters Rosemarie and Olive; numerous nieces; nephews; and many friends. He was predeceased by his son Rodney.
Walter was born in Rosenberg, May 4, 1926. Pop married Mom in 1953 and they resided in Winnipeg. He worked for Blue Bird Messenger, Midland Superior and CN. They decided to farm full time in 1980. Mom and Pop lived and farmed in the Arborg area until 2010 when they moved to Lac du Bonnet. There he fished, played cards, “supervised” gardens, and listened to lots of live music especially the “Heel toe Polka” played by his granddaughter. Pop loved walking around his new community, always a friendly face, telling stories about the old days.
Pop found the secret of a contented life early. He did what he wanted, when he wanted. He didn’t talk about regrets or what should have been, He was happy fishing, hunting, loving the outdoors and his pets (moose, jumpers, rabbits,...) playing cards, farming, gardening, mushroom and berry picking, spending time with family and friends, and of course telling stories!
We welcome you to celebrate Walter’s life on Monday, January 27, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in Abundant Life Chapel, 90 - 4th Street, Lac du Bonnet. Interment to follow in the spring, at Okno, MB.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Bruneau, the staff at Pinawa Hospital and Teresa Hnatiuk for their caring and kindness.

GARY WAYNE ERICKSON

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Gary Wayne Erickson on Sunday, January 19, 2014 at the Pinawa Hospital.
Left to mourn Gary’s untimely passing are his loving wife Helen; sons Richard (Tamara and children Tia and Zach) and Lee (Danielle); many brothers and sister in laws; nieces and nephews (especially Grant and Diane who always supported him in tough times).  He was predeceased by his parents Jessie and Axel Erickson; brother Nelson; and also his mother and father in law Merle and Lorne McCracken; brother in law Alex James; nephew Scott McCracken; and niece Colleen James.
On December 14, 1943 Gary was born at the Pine Falls General Hospital.  He lived with his parents and elder brother Nelson at "Old" Pinawa where Gary’s dad worked at the hydro electric plant until it closed in 1951.  They then moved to Great Falls, Manitoba in August, 1951 where his father continued working as a control operator.
Gary curled a great deal as a child as his dad was the ice maker at the curling rink in Great Falls.  Curling and baseball were his greatest sports.  However Gary also enjoyed golfing as he would hitch hike to Pine Falls from Great Falls to play and practice the game.  Hunting and fishing were two more of his sports, as was flying.  Gary took his flying lessons in the mid 70's and owned his own Piper Cub PA18 for 15 years.  Gary did not realize at the time that this would have a future influence on his sons Richard and Lee who are now both flying for Perimeter Aviation.
At 18 years of age on an extended summer holiday, Gary started to work for Manitoba Hydro.  He was hired as an electrical trainee with the production department in 1964.  He then travelled to the different hydro stations throughout his training.
Gary met Helen McCracken at a curling bonspiel and they were married in 1967, residing in Great Falls, Manitoba where he worked for some years.  He then worked in the Seven Sisters Falls region for four years before working the last seven years of his career at Jenpeg, Manitoba where Gary retired in December of 1998.
A Celebration of Gary’s Life will be postponed to a later date when some of his "snow bird" friends return home from their winter holidays. Service time to be announced.
We wish to thank Dr. Mouton, his dermatologist and his staff, Dr. Wong and his staff, the Cancer Care Clinic staff at the Health Sciences Centre, Dr. Bruneau and the Cancer Care staff at the Pinawa Hospital and to the Pinawa Hospital staff that gave Gary and his family such great, compassionate care.

Sheila was a special lady who touched so many lives. She began her career at Saan Stores in 1988 and quickly worked her way up to store manager at age 22. She soon joined the Saan Head Office as a buyer, and enjoyed many buying trips to places such as Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, and Montreal. At the time of her passing, Sheila was employed as a representative of Staples Canada.
Sheila’s true joy was her family, with whom she enjoyed many, many great vacations. She particularly enjoyed watching her children perform, whether it was Haelley on the dance and theatre stages, or Ryan at the hockey rink and soccer field. She was so proud of all of their accomplishments. Sheila enjoyed so many friendships, and was so glad to be visited in her final days by the Denman girls, the Irish Dance and Hockey moms, as well co-workers from her days at Staples and Saan Stores. She was an active fund-raiser for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, participating annually in the CIBC Run for the Cure.

Remembering Me
To the living, I am gone
To the sorrowful, I will never return
To the happy, I am at peace.
I cannot speak, but I can listen
I cannot be seen, but I can be heard
So, as you stand upon a shore gazing at the beautiful lake at Sunset – Remember me.
For if you always think of me, I will have never gone.
