MARIE “BERTHE” WIEBE

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, Berthe Wiebe on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at the age of 94 years.
Berthe will be greatly missed by her daughters Linda (John) Reavely and Beverley Fritschy; sons Tom (Gail) and Barry (June); grandchildren Neil (Patti and children Tanya and Dallas) Reavely, Warren (Misty) Reavely, Palmer Fritschy and Samantha Paige Fritschy; close cousin, Corinne Tellier; sister, Aurelie Lacharite; two sisters-in-law, Agnes Wiebe and Susan Dueck; brother-in-law, Henry (Nettie) Wiebe; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Neil, in 1985.
Our mother was born in St. Norbert on March 24, 1920.  She graduated high school and worked in the family business until she met our father.  They married in 1947, bought their first home in St. Vital in 1956, where she lived for over 50 years.
Mom was very active.  She delivered Meals on Wheels for over 25 years, donated blood regularly, bowled weekly, loved crossword puzzles and playing cribbage.  She attended Mass regularly.  Mom was an accomplished musician and loved to share her gift with others, playing piano in various venues throughout Winnipeg with several bands.  Her great passion, however, was family and how her eyes lit up when we arrived.
Mom lived independently until her final months in Tache Nursing Centre.  She was so appreciative of the love and care received during her brief but wonderful stay and was much loved by the staff.  We are so very grateful to them.
A Celebration of Mom’s Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 in St. Eugene Roman Catholic Church, 1009 St. Mary’s Road.

JOHN WALTER DYCK
1951 - 2014

It is with the deepest sadness we announce the passing of John Walter Dyck at Riverview Health Centre Friday, June 13, 2014.  He is survived by his wife and best friend of 20 years Linda; children by his first wife Deb Martinuzzi -  Nadine (Jayson),  Christopher (Holly),  Teresa (Ian); six beautiful grandchildren Olivia, Vivian, Sophia, Francesca, Josephine and Henry; his father John and stepmother Neta; brother Ernest (Shari); sister Marlene (Phil); and nieces and nephews.   John was predeceased by his mother    Erna (nee Goertzen) in 1980.
John was born and raised in Winnipeg.  He was a graduate of River East Collegiate and went on to Red River College to study drafting.  He went to work for a while in the graphic arts field.  In the 70’s, he and Deb started a coffee truck service in Fort Garry – J&D Catering.  This grew into the Lunchbox Mobile Catering, and Peaks and Ridges Restaurant.  John became the concessionaire and caterer at the Red River Exhibition for the seasonal shows and during the Ex, managed the Red Barn.
One of John’s biggest loves was his cottage on Lake Lac Du Bonnet.  He built it himself and some of his happiest times were spent there.  John was an avid golfer, fisherman, snowmobiler and downhill skier.
John was a strong vital man who enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. He liked people and greeted everybody with a genuine word and a firm handshake.   He loved his children and would have walked to the ends of the earth for them.  He was a decent, honest, humble man – not perfect but good.  He believed that by hard work he could make his corner of the world a better place for his family, his friends and acquaintances.  That made him a success.  He weathered the obstacles and the disappointments of life.  He was a fighter to the very end.   We cannot begin to express the profound loss and the vacuum this has left in our lives.
We would like to thank our family, friends, neighbors and co-workers for their support over the last several years.  It is impossible to count the kindnesses shown to us by them, and by total strangers, as we worked our way through this.
Our deepest thanks to the Manitoba Brain Injury Association, Manitoba Alzheimer Society, the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, St Boniface Hospital Family Medicine, Deer Lodge Centre and the outstanding people at Riverview Health Centre for helping us walk this long and winding road.
A memorial service will be held Friday, June 20, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Buntain Chapel, 400 Hargrave Street and reception to follow in Calvary Temple banquet hall, 440 Hargrave Street.   In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.

ELIZABETH MILLAR PEDDIE
(nee COSSAR)

Elizabeth "Betty" Peddie (nee Cossar) of Winnipeg, Manitoba, passed away peacefully at Deer Lodge Centre on Sunday, June 15, 2014 at the age of 98 years.

Betty is survived by her sister Janey Harrison; niece Patricia Maxwell (Brian); niece Irene-Elizabeth Johnson; niece-in-law Allison Harrison; numerous great nieces and nephews; and an abundance of life-long friends. She was predeceased by her loving husband Arthur Peddie in 1993; brother-in-law Noel Harrison in 2009; and nephew Tom Harrison in 2014.
Betty was born in Winnipeg on April 24, 1916, the elder of two daughters born to Scottish parents Tom and Christine Cossar. She graduated from Kelvin High School and continued on to receive her Licentiate for piano from the Royal College of Music.  By playing with a local Scottish orchestra Betty was able to cover her fees at Angus Business College. In early 1942 she left her job as a stenographer at Metropolitan Life and enlisted in the Canadian Women’s Army Corp (CWAC). Ten months later she sailed with other CWACS and troops on a five day voyage to London, England where as a member of the First Echelon Intelligence Branch, Betty was entrusted with handling highly sensitive military intelligence. She lugged her heavy accordion on her slender 5’3” frame throughout her CWAC career, bringing  joy to captivated  audiences by playing in barracks, the  London underground, hospitals, concerts, on short wave radio and at sea.
Stationed in Italy, Betty met her beloved future husband, Arthur “Red” Peddie, an enlisted soldier who also happened to be a Winnipegger. She returned home to civilian life in 1946, the couple married in 1949 and were together until Red’s death in 1993. After the war Betty worked for the Conservative Party and then at the Deer Lodge Centre until her retirement in 1981.
More than 60 years after the war, Betty was still keeping spirits up with her vibrantly cheerful personality and her regular piano gigs at Heritage Lodge, Sharon Home, Poseidon Care Home and Deer Lodge Centre. She started playing the organ for the CFB 17 Wing Chapel after her retirement where she made many wonderful friends and was dearly loved. One of Betty’s neighbors thought she must have had a twin as she was so busy with her piano playing and attending all the different organizations with which she was involved. Over the years, Betty’s family loved singing along with all the old Scottish tunes and other popular music at family gatherings as she “tickled the ivories”.  Betty confided that “I never feel like I’m old - you don’t get old inside, you know!”
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 27, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Canadian Forces Base 17 Wing Chapel, at 2235 Silver Avenue (off Whytewold Road north of Ness).
Special thanks to all the staff in T6 Ward and Prime at Deer Lodge Centre for their loving care.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Deer Lodge Centre or the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Manitoba.

I'd like the memory of me,
To be a happy one.
I'd like to leave an afterglow
Of smiles when the day is done
I'd love to leave an echo
Whispering softly down the ways
Of happy times and laughing times
And bright and sunny days
I'd like the tears of those who grieve
To dry before the sun
Of happy memories I leave behind
When the day is done.......
Until we meet again.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in St. Charles Roman Catholic Church, 320 St. Charles Street, Winnipeg, with a eulogy beginning at 1:45 p.m.
The family would like thank the doctors and nurses on 4A and ICU at St. Boniface General Hospital for the care and compassion they have shown during his stay.

May you rest in peace in God’s special embrace.

JOY PROFIT

It is with deep regret that we announce the death of Joy Profit, on Thursday, June 26, 2014, Winnipeg, Manitoba at the age of 62 years. She was always an old soul and was affectionately nicknamed “The Old Girl”.
She will be forever remembered by siblings Brenda (Bob) McCracken, Kris (Sherry) Profit; nieces and nephews Tricia (Dan) Precourt, Heather (Clint) Unrau, Graham Profit, Brett Profit, and Lauren (Dan) Profit.  She will be greatly missed by her life-long friend Lynn, and remembered always by aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Joy is predeceased by her partner in life, Josef Schnieder; as well as mom and dad Kenneth Profit and Dorothy Profit; and stepfather Byron Benjamin.
The Old Girl will be mostly remembered for her intelligence, thoughtfulness and organizational skills. In her younger years she would organize the neighborhood kids, young and old, to dress up and do whatever she thought fit. Joy was also known to bail her younger brother out when he would neglect to study, all year, and need her assistance to prep for his final exams.
Joy had many talents, some of which included painting and music. She would often tickle the ivories with her well-manicured nails.
One of her passions was to travel, so it was a natural fit that she became a travel agent. Joy worked for numerous travel agencies before she found a home and developed some valued friendships at Fehr Way Tours.
Joy was never one whom appreciated being the center of attention. As such, the family has decided there will be no funeral service.  In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
