WILLIAM (BILL) SALLOWS
On Friday, August 24, 2012 Bill passed away peacefully, after a courageous battle with cancer at the St. Boniface Hospital, at the age of 74 years. Left to cherish Bill's memory are his loving wife of 35 years, Marge; daughter Tricia (Shaun) Rempel and their daughter Elora; sister-in-law Val Sallows of Niverville, MB; sisters Molly (Bob) McKay of Flin Flon, MB, Nola (Don) Hartgerink of Hixon, BC, Chloe (Bruce) Jorgenson of Gilbert Plains, MB, and Wanda (Stan) Herman of Kamloops, BC; Shaun's parents Imy and Larry Rempel of Altona, MB, and their family; as well as Bill's many nieces, nephews, relatives and numerous friends across Canada and the U.S. He was predeceased by his brother Terry Sallows; infant nephew Darcy; mother-in-law Mary, and his parents Ralph and Thora Sallows. While working at the Mid-Canada Radar Line in Cranberry Portage, Bill met his partner, the late Herman Kutzner. In 1959, they took a Professional Scuba Diving course in Winnipeg and in 1961, they started the Northern Divers Company in Grand Rapids. They worked with R.C.M.P. recovery, pulled vehicles from the ice on the Saskatchewan River, and cut the pilings on the Saskatchewan River bridge after it was built. They worked on the Dyke system for Mannix, retrieved equipment during construction of the transmission lines and did exploration work. From 1963 to 1964 both Herman and Bill worked on the construction of the Grand Rapids Generating Station as Journeymen for the Grand Rapids Constructors. Bill also trained as a Private Pilot and received his license in 1964. In 1964, both Bill and Herman joined Manitoba Hydro as Electrical Maintenance Technicians. However, since they still operated their Northern Divers Company after hours, Bill went to Chicago to become a Mercury Outboard Factory-Trained Service Mechanic in 1967 and repaired many outboard motors for the local Commercial Fishermen. On February 2, 1966, Bill was appointed as Justice of the Peace for the Province of Manitoba, and then as a Limited Jurisdiction Magistrate in 1971. In 1968, he received his Electrical Technician's Certificate, including four years training at Manitoba Hydro Electrical Trade School in Winnipeg. Over the years, through various management development courses, seminars, workshops and self-initiated business correspondence courses, Bill kept upgrading himself until he assumed his final role as Plant Manager at the Grand Rapids Generating Station January 1, 1977 until his retirement March 31, 1997. Over the years, Bill was involved in almost everything in his community including: Hunter and Fire Arm Safety Instructor, Snowmobile Safety Instructor, recovery of historic tramway wheels from the Saskatchewan River bed, Charter Member of the Saskatchewan River Rod and Gun Club, Recreation Club, Chamber of Commerce, Health and Social Development Committee, Professional Guide with Manitoba Natural Resources and devoted his time to preparing a dog sled race track for the Grand Rapids Annual Winter Festival. Bill was also an amateur explorer and an accomplished canoeist on several of Manitoba's northern rivers. On August 2, 1973, Bill and his partner Jim LeRoye, together with Real Berard (Tourism, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department, Parks Branch) and Real's nephew Maurice, retraced the Middle Track Fur Trade Route across Northern Manitoba, beginning at Jenpeg on Cross Lake, down the Bigstone, Fox and Hayes Rivers to York Factory on the Hudson Bay. This was one of the longest and hardest in a series of canoe trips (more than 500 miles total) and took one month to complete. The resulting data collected on this trip was documented and illustrated by Real Berard producing a map The Middle Track and Hayes River Route used by present day canoeists. On August 21, 1970 Bill canoed with his partner Jim LeRoye, together with Bud Monkman and the late Bill McKinnon from Bear Lake, Bigstone, Fox and Kettle Rivers to Gillam. In 1977, the invincible Group of Six made an eventful trip on the Carrot River. Bill's partner was Ed Schreyer, who was then Premier of Manitoba; the late Herman Kutzner and Jim LeRoye; and the late Jack Maloney and the late John MacDonald. Other canoe trips included the Minago River, Fairy Rock Lake, Stevenson Lake to Island Lake, and Wekusko to Wabowden on the Grassy. Other expeditions over the years were group boating and snowmobiling in which Bill always took responsibility to ensure that everyone got to the destination safely. Bill met Marge in 1964. She was typically a secretary for the same organizations or shared the same interests and outdoor spirit, such as fish derbies, and snowmobile and boat trips with mutual friends. Bill and Marge were married in 1977 and built a cabin at North Cross Bay by themselves from scratch, with only the use of hand tools as Bill insisted on no power tools . In 2000, when Bill and Marge retired to Winnipeg, they began taking dance lessons because they both loved the same music and loved to dance. Mutual interests included lessons in wood carving at Lee Valley, oil painting, photography, video editing, and other Creative Retirement interests. They also made several trips with CAA, through Europe, Greek Isles, Egypt, around Cape Horn South America, Caribbean, Panama Canal, Mexico, Costa Rica, British Columbia and across a few states. But their final, the most adventurous and most enjoyed trip was up the Amazon and into the depths of the jungle in the heart of South America in 2011. A Celebration of Bill's Life will be held on Friday, September 28, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Memories in Wojcik's Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main Street at Manitoba Avenue (four blocks South of the Redwood Bridge). Bill's family wishes to thank all of the wonderful people who looked after him during his illness at: Grace Emergency, CancerCare, Health Sciences Centre and St. Boniface Hospital. Also a very special Thank You to Dr. Watrowski, Dr. P. Harris, Dr. H. Unrault, Assiniboine Rexall Pharmacy, and Dr. S. Grass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Creative Retirement Manitoba, 270 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B9 or online at www.crm.mb.ca. or CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 (204-787-4143) (toll free 1-877-407-2223). The sun rose on January 15, 1930 and set on Saturday, September 1, 2012, in the life of Alfred (Al) Edward Jelliff. Left temporarily behind are his beloved wife of 58 years, Irene; daughters Val (John) of Kenora, Ontario; Sandy (Murray) of Warren, Manitoba; grandchildren Jen (Rhys), Matt (Aubree), Kelsi, Devon (Jesse), Sawyer and Dallas; and three great-grandchildren, Madden, Beck and Farrah. He was able to see his fourth great-grandchild Baby Brolly, shortly before his journey ended. He also leaves to mourn his sister Gai Brown of Stonewall, Manitoba, sister-in-law Mazie Shearer of Wawanesa, Manitoba; as well as several nieces and nephews. Dad, Grandpa, Great-Pa was born in Winnipeg and grew up in Rivers, Manitoba. After meeting and marrying the love of his life, Al and Irene resided in Rivers where he worked in his father's blacksmith shop and operated heavy equipment at the River's Air Force Base. During that time he also drove ambulance as a volunteer. While in Rivers, Al and Irene enjoyed curling, baseball and many a country dance. When they relocated to Winnipeg, Al started his career as a long haul trucker. He worked for Versatile as the Transport Manager and then established Simtax, a company to serve independent operators and trucking fleets with fuel taxes and licensing. Dad, Al was very proud of his family and never failed to support us on our journeys. He gained great pleasure from watching his grandchildren play hockey, ringette, basketball, soccer and dance. He was always ready to drop what he was doing to help out his daughters and grandchildren. Al acted as president of the 17 Wing Warrant Officer's and Sergeant's Mess Associate Members for many years, and he and Irene spent many memorable times at the Sergeant's Mess with friends dancing till the wee hours. He had a wonderful sense of humour and a gift for story-telling and was always up for a prank or a good joke. Al was a proud member of the Phoenix Masonic Lodge and the Khartum Shriners - Scooter Unit. He was a former riding captain and a past president of the unit, and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his riding buddies and performing with the team. In Dad's year long battle with cancer, he remained positive and upbeat and never lost his determination to continue on with his life. His courage, strength and love will forever live in the hearts of those who were close to him. On Friday, September 7, 2012 a Celebration of our dear Dad, Grandpa and Great-Pa's Life will take place at 1:00 p.m. in The Khartum Shrine Centre, 1155 Wilkes Avenue. Graham died suddenly, but peacefully, at home on the morning of Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at the age of 75 years. He leaves behind Ann, his wife of 53 years; beloved twin brother Desmond; sons Damian, Paul and James; daughters Melody and Joanna, and grandson Max. It is impossible to sum up the whole of Graham's life and nature in a few words. He was born in and spent the early part of his life in South Africa, a country he loved. He and Ann came to Canada in their 20s and it soon became home. One of Graham's greatest natural gifts was his way with people. He was a gracious gentleman. His genuine care for others and uncanny ability to relate to them allowed him to touch many lives. He was actively involved at St. John Brebeuf Parish and he quietly excelled in his decades of work in the city's automotive business. Graham loved to read. He was mad for virtually all sports and craved good food. Most of all he loved being around his family. Funeral Liturgy will be Celebrated on Tuesday, August 7, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. in St. John Brebeuf Roman Catholic Church, 1707 John Brebeuf Place, with Rev. Fr. Mark Tarrant presiding. Sincere thanks to all who have offered support and condolences, with a special nod to Father Mark Tarrant for his kindness. Donations can be made in Graham's memory to Zulu Missions (zulumissions.com) or Winnipeg's Siloam Mission. A generous, kind, hard-working and loving man of integrity is with God now. We'll never forget him.

JOAN DONNELLY (nee CARRIERE)
Peacefully but suddenly, with her family and special friends by her side, Mom passed away Saturday, July 28, 2012 at the Health Sciences Centre at the age of 76 years. She fought a short but courageous battle with bone cancer. We knew Brian couldn't let her suffer so he took her quickly. Mom is survived by her three children and six grandchildren, Gary and Heather Fustey, (Sara, Amy and step-grandson Dennis), Susan and Mike Davey (Matthew Nemetchek and Vanessa, Shaun Nemetchek and Sue, stepgrandchildren Kennedy, Curtis and Callan), Michael and Brigette Fustey (Courtney and Kolton). She was predeceased by her husband, Brian Donnelly and mother, Evelyne Carriere. Mom's last week with us was incredible. She was visited by some of her favourite friends, Dino, Vince and Gus and her best friend of 60 years Muriel and Dick Petersen from Minneapolis. She was happy with her hair perfectly done and her lipstick on; she was ready to see her husband again. Mom lived her life around her family, her children and grandchildren were her world. We thank you Mom for 76 wonderful years and many more precious memories. There will be no formal Funeral Service. A private family Interment will take place. We would like to say a special thank you to Adriana Goodmanson for all her caring visits and understanding of mom during her hospital stay. The family would also like to thank the staff at RR6 Rehab hospital for their care, patience and support in the short time Mom was there. If desired, donations in Joan's name may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 200 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6.

WILLIAM C. (BILL) McMENEMY
July 7, 1927- July 30, 2012
VE4 WCM/VE3 CBR
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Bill McMenemy in the early morning hours of Monday, July 30 at the St. Norbert Personal Care Home with his loving wife Helen at his side. Bill is survived by Helen (nee LaHay), his beloved wife of 61 years. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his three daughters and their families: Diane and Michael Papst, their children Victoria, Henry and Joseph; Katie and David Woelfle, their daughters Lindsey and Rebecca; and Colleen and Glen McGee, their sons Ken (fiancé Janet), Sean (wife Stacy and her children Emma and Henry). Bill is also survived by his sister Mary Ashbee. As a young man, Bill was an active volunteer with the St. John Ambulance Brigade. It was during those activities that he met Helen. He and Helen received certificates of commendation for their efforts during the S. S. Noronic disaster in Toronto Harbour in 1949. Bill and Helen were married in Toronto in 1951 and lived in various parts of southern Ontario following advances in Bill's professional career. After 33 years in the Bramalea/Brampton area, in 1998 Bill and Helen relocated to Winnipeg to be nearer to family. Bill started his working life as an industrial chemist and retired as Industrial Relations Manager for Chrysler Canada. He especially enjoyed the high tension brinkmanship of contract negotiations. Since 1961, Bill has been an amateur radio operator, most recently as a member of the Winnipeg Senior Citizens Radio Club. He received a letter of appreciation for his service as VE3 CBR during the Mississauga Emergency of 1979. Bill enjoyed playing bridge, golfing, bowling and traveling with his wife Helen. He was a patient and hopeful fisherman and an avid reader. On behalf of the family, we would like to thank the staff of St. Norbert Personal Care Home for their kindness and compassion while Bill was in their care. In keeping with Bill's wishes, his body has been donated to the University of Manitoba Department of Human Anatomy and Cell Science. Internment will be at a later date. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 4 at Mary, Mother of the Church Parish, 85 Kirkbridge Drive, Winnipeg. A reception will follow in the church hall. If friends wish, donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Siloam Mission (300 Princess Street, Winnipeg MB R3B 1M3 or www.siloam.ca) or to a charity of your choice.
