Joyce will be deeply missed by her husband Lawrence of 55 years; two children Ian McCausland (Lynda) and Tracy Bijl (Rod); grandchildren Sarah, Matthew and Liam; sister Evelyn Day (Gary); as well as numerous nieces; nephews; relatives; and friends. She was predeceased by her father Arthur and mother Gladys.
On June 22, 1939 Joyce was born and raised on the family farm in the Killarney region where she learned the importance of strong family commitments that she carried throughout her life. She was married on July 5, 1958 to Lawrence George McCausland in Boissevain, Manitoba. Shortly after, they moved to Winnipeg to start their career and family.

THELMA MCDERMID
(nee ASHBY)

Peacefully, after a lengthy illness; it is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Thelma Lorraine McDermid of Winnipeg, Manitoba, on Thursday, April 18, 2013 at 87 years of age.
Thelma is survived by her brother, Gordon (Bea) and her three sons, Dale (Janice), Doug (Cheri), and Al (Brenda);  grandchildren, Sean (Meagan), Lee (Samantha), Stewart, Jenni, Sarah Kelly (Nicholas), Michael (Laura), David, James; two great-grandchildren, Quinn and Nate; along with extended family Sandi (Rob), Devon, Cameron, and Jaron; as well as numerous nieces; nephews; relatives; and friends.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband Don McDermid.
Mum and Dad attended Principal Sparling School and Daniel McIntyre Collegiate together. Upon Dad’s return from WWII, they were married and raised their sons in Winnipeg. Mum was committed to Dad and loved him deeply. She was proud of her many accomplishments. Before marrying she worked for the Great West Life Insurance Company operating one of the first early-stage computers. Later in life she worked for Eaton’s and was proud to be the floor manager of the housewares department at the St. Vital store from which she retired at age 65. Thelma was loyal to her employers her entire life and her family all had significant amounts of the store merchandise to prove it.
Throughout the years, Mum was a Girl Guide Leader, a sorority executive member, a community volunteer, a voracious reader, an animal lover, and the best Coffee Cake maker of all time. She loved to drive the various cars she owned and favoured the speed of sixty kilometers per hour whether she was on the highway or in the driveway.
Mum was a force to be reckoned with on any given day. She held her beliefs tightly and seldom gave in on any issue or challenge. Her strength defined her and she truly was a fighter in all aspects of her life. But at her core, Mum loved her family more than anything. Her grandchildren were flawless in her eyes and she shelled out scotch mints to them in quantity as soon as their parents weren’t looking. Her sons and patient daughter-in-laws also enjoyed her unwavering support.
A gathering is being planned at a later date, following her Interment.
Our family wishes to extend our heart-felt gratitude to the staff at Dakota House for their kindness that they extended to Mum. In her final months, Mum resided at Vista Park Lodge and received care from a thoughtful and compassionate group of professionals. For this we are truly grateful.
Donations in Thelma’s memory may be made to the Stroke Recovery Association of Manitoba, CancerCare Manitoba, or the charity of your choice.

JOAN HEGGIE

Peacefully, on Tuesday, April 23, 2013, surrounded by her loving family, Joan succumbed to her illness with courage and dignity and passed away at the age of 86 years.
Remaining to forever cherish Joan’s memory are her two daughters, Lois (Harold) Demetzer of Thunder Bay, ON and Janis (Philip) Nemeth of Surrey, BC; loving son, John (Colleen) of Winnipeg; five grandchildren, Thomas and Robert Demetzer, Andrew and Megan Nemeth and Madison Heggie.  She was predeceased by husband Hugh after 56 years of marriage in June 2005; and sister, Grace Robertson in 2000.
Joan was born on Bowman Avenue, Winnipeg, daughter of Margaret and John Elder.  She was the younger of two daughters.  When she met Hugh they would take the train to Grand Beach to enjoy the water, sand and boardwalk, but most of all the highlight of the evening would be the Grand Beach Dance where they would dance the night away.  When Joan and Hugh’s family arrived they decided to build the cottage at Star Lake for their family to enjoy for many years to come.  Joan enjoyed attending Church and singing in the choir every Sunday; her voice was angelic.  She loved classical music, which was apparent when she would play the piano.  Joan loved animals, especially dogs which she had many in her lifetime; Brownie, Tinker, Sabre, Sindy, Suzie, Whiskey, Callie and left behind her beloved Jessie.  Everyone who met Joan loved her.  She was the kindest, sweetest lady you would every meet.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joan’s name to the Winnipeg Pet Rescue Shelter, 3062 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3K 0Y1.

In Our Hearts

We thought of you with love today,
But that is nothing new.
We thought about you yesterday,
And days before that too.

We think of you in silence.
We often speak your name
Now all we have are memories
And your picture in a frame.

Your memory is our keepsake
With which we’ll never part
God has you in His keeping.
We have you in our heart.

“Mom, Nanny, we love you and miss you dearly.
You will always be in our heart.”

MAJOR (RETIRED)

LEWIS PHILIP WEBER, CD

It is withprofound regret that we announce the sudden death of our beloved husband, dad, and best friend, Lewis Philip Weber on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 in Winnipeg, Manitoba at the age of 79 years. Lewis will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his surviving wife of 55 years, Mary (Watters), his children Lew (Wendy), Carla (Andy), Mark (Lisa), and Todd (Janette), and his seven grandchildren Alex, Andrew, Ben, Katie, Kylie, Holly, and Adam.
From humble beginnings Dad has always risen to life`s challenges and adventures and well exceeded the bar set for him. Joining the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) as an Air Traffic Controller Dad spent many years guiding wayward pilots safely home through good weather and bad. The ATC crest centrepiece is the shepherd`s crook which is a symbol of care.
The crook was used for balance, guidance, and keeping the flock safe from the dangers of life. How true this held for his role of father to our family. Hallmarks of Dad`s character had been a peaceful strength and a genuine caring regard for all. Dad had always exemplified hard work, faith, and, above all, service to his family. A strong role model for his children in his character and his marriage, Dad had in return been blessed with the love and devotion of his beautiful wife Mary.  We all have been deeply nurtured and guided in the time we have had with Dad and the world and character of his children and grandchildren are the better for it. We are only consoled by the fact that God has called him home and we will be reunited with Dad in due time. Dad well exemplified the RCAF motto `Per Ardua Ad Astra` which translates to `Through Adversity to the Stars`. Enjoy your days fully, love your dear ones unconditionally, and hug them often. Our hearts are breaking yet full, thanks to the life of this good man.
Funeral Liturgy will be Celebrated on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church, 4588 Roblin Boulevard @ Grant Avenue with Rev. Msgr. Comeault P.H. presiding.
Special thanks to the efforts of the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service for their quick response and strong efforts.

May 31, 1909 – April 25, 2013

Stella Baran died peacefully on Thursday, April 25, 2013, one month shy of celebrating her 104thbirthday.  She was born in Jaroslaw, Poland and was married to Frank Baran from 1925 until his death in 1985.
Stella followed Frank to Manitoba in 1929, settling on a farm in West St. Paul where she lived until 1986 before moving to St. James.  Proudly independent, she lived in her own apartment until this past November.  She leaves two children, Nettie Kowbel (Henry, deceased) and Walter (Irene and grandson Dennis, deceased), 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren.  A true matriarch, family – and feeding them – was the centerpiece of Stella’s life.  She was passionate in creating and sharing her crochet and needlework masterpieces.  We will always remember her sympathetic ear, her kindness and generosity as we celebrate the influence she had on all of us.

VIOLET “VI” BRADSHAW

We are sad to announce that our Mum, Violet Bradshaw, nee Watson, has journeyed to join Dad, (Dal (Morley) Bradshaw as well as her big brother, Raymond Watson and younger sister, Mona Bradshaw. We mourn her passing on Sunday morning, April 28, 2013. Violet leaves behind to treasure her memory, three daughters, Wendy (Danny), Deborah (Dagan) and Trudie (Bryan) and only grandson, Jason Stear. As well, she leaves her brother-in-law, and Dad's younger brother, Brownie / Brad Bradshaw. Also left to remember Mum are all of her nieces and nephews, along with her friends.
Born on September 30, 1920, Vi grew up on Langside Street in Winnipeg's west end, where she graduated from Daniel McIntyre Collegiate. She worked at the downtown Eaton's store until her marriage to Dad in October, 1939. They spent 65 happy years together. After the war they moved to Thunder Bay (Fort William), where Wendy was born. In 1958 Vi and Dal moved back to Winnipeg, to Rita Street, where their girls were to grow up in a warm, loving home. Debbie and Trudie were born soon after to make their family complete. This was also around the time that Mum and Dad purchased land on Netley Creek and built their own cottage there. This family getaway was a place where Vi enjoyed having friends and family come to visit. She was always ready with a “bite to eat” and a cup of tea.
After "the girls" had all started school, Vi took a job at Eaton's, Polo Park, where she enjoyed her interaction with customers. She retired from there, opening the door for her and Dad to travel. Mum and Dad traveled to faraway places, from the United Kingdom to China to South America. They traveled with their friends, the Hansons, and with Auntie Mona and Uncle Brownie. They enjoyed the company of our cousin, Wayne, and his wife Robin, on their long trip to China.
Besides being active in the Eastern Star for a few years, Mum and Dad were enthusiastic Line, Square and Round Dancers. The St. James Legion was the place to be on a Monday afternoon for dancing. Even after Dad passed on, Mum, with the help of great friends, still made it out to participate in these classes. Mum and Dad also volunteered for the information booth at the Red River Ex for many years and really enjoyed all the staff and the visitors they met during this time.
Of all the roles Vi played in her life, she treasured most the part she played in the lives of her family. She was proud of and encouraging to each of her daughters in their life’s decisions. Always one for details, she informed herself about her girls’ school programming, wanting the best option for each girl. Health issues were treated in the same way. Vi educated herself so that she could make strong decisions for her family.
She was a nurturing grandmother to Jason, and loved to hear about his accomplishments. The memory of good times with her family stayed with her, even in her last years when her health was beginning to fail.
Violet has been a resident at Oakview Place for the last few years and we offer our sincere gratitude to the staff there for their kindness and the care for our Mum. We’d also like to express a heartfelt “thank you” to Alisia Roos, who became Mum's companion, visiting with her three times a week. Alisia’s compassionate care at a difficult time was most appreciated.

Friends and family are invited to join in a Celebration of Vi’s life at The Royal Canadian Legion, St. James Branch #4 at 1775 Portage Avenue, on Friday, May 10 at 1:00 p.m.
Appreciated, in lieu of flowers, should friends wish, are contributions to Extendicare/Oakview Place, 2395 Ness Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3J 1A5  or

Much loved mother of Carol (Cam), Robert, Mary (Larry), James (Marni) and a fantastic Grandma to Jarrett, Bret, Tyler, Natasha, Arielle, Alanna, Lance, Lauren, and the furry grandkids Lucy, Sadie, Marley, Max and Scooter, passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2013.
Eleanor loved spending time with her neighbours, providing sports commentary on many sports that she loved, and after retiring from Heritage Lodge Care Home was able to spend much more time with family and friends. She lived with a straight forward, no-nonsense approach to life, always offering up a chuckle, and that will be greatly missed.
At Eleanor’s request no public Service will be held, a private memorial dinner in her honour will take place.
The family thanks all of the staff at 3 North-Grace Hospital.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or charity of your choice.

Miss Me But Let Me Go

When I come to the end of the road
and the sun has set on me,
I want no rites in a gloom filled room,
why cry for a soul set free.
Miss me a little--but not too long,
and not with your head bowed low,
Remember the love that we once shared,
miss me--but let me go.
For this is a journey that we all must take, and each must go alone.
It's all a part of the Master's plan,
a step on the road to home.
When you are lonely and sick of heart,
go to the friends we know.
And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds, miss me--but let me go

RICK MUELLER
December 19, 1955 – April 28, 2013

Rick Mueller was born in Fritzlar, Germany in 1955. The second youngest in a family of 7 children, Rick immigrated to Canada in 1974 to start a new adventure at the age of 19. Initially he worked in his uncle’s general store in Manitou, Manitoba until he quickly perfected his English. It was so perfect in fact, that many people were surprised to learn that German was his first language.
He moved to Winnipeg in 1984, and soon after joined CKJS – a multilingual radio station selling advertising. He worked with the crew at CKJS for over 20 years, becoming the station’s top-selling producer. Then, struck by an entrepreneurial fervor, he went into business for himself – first with the Flyer Zone, and later Paladin Display, as a North American distributor of trade show and display products. Rick had a naturally outgoing personality and caring, genuine presence that helped him form many lifelong friendships from his longstanding, large and loyal client base. In the past two months of Rick’s brief illness, he was so pleased to receive visits from many of them, and will be especially missed by his close friends Steve, Todd, Kristen, Eva, Berndt, Joyce and Bob. He loved them all like family, and family truly meant everything to him.
Rick absolutely lived for his ‘sunshines’ – his daughters Shannon and Andrea (Mike), his granddaughters Ashley, and Hailey, his wife of 20 years Kristin, as well as her family the Loadmans (Don, Gail, Kim and Greg,).
He adored nights spent on the deck, looking at the stars, gourmet food. He had a good word to say about everyone and if you ever asked Rick how he was, no matter how tough the day he’d unfailingly answer ‘I can’t complain’…
He held a great respect for all living creatures, and his loving nature extended to many family pets, especially his beagle ‘pack’ Cali, Bella and Koda. A dog-spoiler extraordinaire, he always carried treats in his pockets for his customers’ and friends’ pets.
His sudden illness and passing from cancer will leave a huge gap that we know will never completely heal, or be filled.  A Come & Go Celebration to mark his life will be held at home, in La Salle, on Saturday May 11thfor family and friends.
Rick, we will truly miss you.
Donations may be made to the CancerCare Manitoba Children’s Ward in his honour.
