CHRISTOPHER JOHN MICHAEL BRYANT

Christopher's laughter will forever echo in our hearts. His courageous and lengthy battle for life ended abruptly at his home on Wednesday, May 8, 2013.
Chris loved life. It was a wonderful adventure. Full of music, art, travel, gourmet food, Joy, and friends. But he also loved the other side of life. The sick, the impoverished, the downtrodden. The addicted held a special place in his heart. He had experienced as a former addict the sadness and pain that attends it. He was an active and loyal member of alcoholics anonymous for a number of years. It played a very important role in his life. The members cared for each other as family.
Chris was born and raised in Winnipeg, attended St. Ann's parochial school, St. Paul's High school and the University of Manitoba. He was formerly employed at Sears, BB Bargoons, Salvation Army, and the Addiction Foundation of Manitoba. O Divine Master grant that I may not so much
seek to be consoled as to console
to be understood as to understand
to be loved as to love
for it is in giving that we receive
It is in pardoning that are we pardoned
and it is in dying that we are born
to eternal life.

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, and the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

AMELIA LOVELESS
(nee GRANTER)
April 13, 1937- May 21-2013

During the early hours of Tuesday morning, May 21, 2013 Amelia Loveless passed to her eternal reward at the Grace Hospice at the age of 76 years.
Amelia passed peacefully with her husband of nearly 55 years, William (Bill), by her side. She leaves behind her daughter, Andrea (Kelly Daun); son, David (Lori); eight grandchildren; two sisters, Rosalie (Howard Toms), Charlotte (Dorman Goulding) both of Newfoundland; a number of brothers and Sisters-in-law; nieces; nephews; other relatives and dear friends.
In 1954, Amelia graduated from The Salvation Army College, and during that year won the distinguished honor of the Rotary Club Speaking Contest for all of Newfoundland.  Shortly after graduation she began teaching at her alma mater just prior to fulfilling her calling and entering The Salvation Army Officers’ Training College in 1955.  Amelia was ordained as a Salvation Army Officer in 1956, and spent many years alongside Bill pastoring her congregation.  She had a passion for ministering to people and spent the last 18 years of her career as a chaplain in Salvation Army Nursing Homes.  She was a gifted speaker and often spoke at Women’s Conferences within the Salvation Army, as well as other denominations.  Amelia was a devoted wife, a caring mother, a great encourager and advocate, and a passionate Prayer Warrior.  Despite being a full time pastor she found time to enjoy knitting and sewing, reading a great book, and cooking for her family.
Amelia retired in 1998 from her Chaplaincy position at The Salvation Army Golden West Lodge.  Since then, with her husband Bill, enjoyed travelling, spending time at their cottage in Bel Aire, and in the last two years spent blessed summers at Beulah Camp on the St. John River.  Amelia shared her time volunteering at the Grace Hospital Gift Shop, and was presented with her 15 year pin while still a patient at the Grace, a pin she wore with great pride.
Although it is sad to see Amelia go, we know her body and voice are once again whole and she is basking in the joys of Heaven.  Here on earth we will be celebrating Amelia’s life on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in The Salvation Army Heritage Park Temple, 825 School Road, Winnipeg, MB.
The family would like to express their thanks to the kind Doctors, Nurses and other staff that helped them through their recent journey.  Special thanks go to the Staff of Grace Hospice.  There are no words to describe your kindness, thoughtfulness and labour of love.  You made an unbearable journey, bearable.  God bless each of you!!
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Grace Hospice. 300 Booth Drive, Winnipeg, MB.

ELEANOR MAY HEMINGER
(nee JOHNSON)

It is with deep sadness that we announce the somewhat sudden passing of our mother, grandmother, aunt, and sister, Eleanor May Heminger on Monday, May 20, 2013 at the St. Boniface Hospital, just eight days after her 86th birthday.
Eleanor was strong, courageous, feisty, supportive, and above all enjoyed life!  One of her main goals was to have everyone happy.  She treated everyone equal, no matter color, race, sex, or sexual orientation, and her love was unconditional.  Eleanor will be forever remembered by her four children, Tim Heminger (Candace), John Heminger, Neal Heminger, and daughter Debbie Frank (Ken); grandchildren, Ryan Heminger (Tracey), Chad Heminger (Jessica), Robert Frank (Shantel), Trisha Bourgeois (Jay); great grandchild Declan and brother Ron Johnson.  Eleanor had far too many very special nieces and nephews that meant so much to her to name.  She was predeceased by her brother Arthur, and sisters, Nancy, Hazel, and Alma.
Independent and healthy was all Eleanor knew in her life and when she started to lose that, she knew it was time to be with God.  She was always the last one to leave the party, always happy, always healthy until the last four months of her life when she lost her courageous battle with Cancer.
Special thanks to the Home Care workers and Nurses that made her final few months so comfortable.  As well, a special thanks to Dr. Unruh, Dr Bager, the amazing Staff at both Health Sciences Centre and St. Boniface Hospital for their tireless work in making both Eleanor and the family as comfortable as possible during her final days.
A Celebration of Eleanor’s Life will be held later this summer.

The family settled in Winnipeg where they provided a good life for their two young children.             Hilda loved to garden and do every handicraft under the sun; she was the ultimate seamstress, making all her own clothes until her arthritis and failing eyesight made it too difficult to continue.
She spent her last two years at the Grace Hospital, Oakview Place and Golden West Centennial Lodge. Hilda was an outspoken, stubborn and extremely feisty lady to the very end! Grateful thanks is extended to all those who cared for my mother.

ARTHUR JOSEPH RUDOLF BOURDON

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Arthur Bourdon, on May 30, 2013 at West Park Manor at the age of 88 years.
Remaining to forever cherish Art’s memory are his sons, David and Nelson (Melanie); sisters, Angele, Anita, Alice; brothers, Del and Ray; grandchildren Alec, Hadrian, Trajan and Octavian (Doc) Bourdon; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Marion; brothers, Henry, Ed, Morris and Austin.
Dad was born on June 14, 1924 in Virden Manitoba. The family moved early in Dad’s life to Norwood where they lived on Marion Street for many years. Dad joined the RCN in 1943 and served on The HMSC Stettler, the HMSC Strathadam and the HMCS Neepawa and received ribbons for the Battle of the Atlantic. Dad was demobilized in November 1946 and returned to Winnipeg.
Art met his wife Marion at Grand Beach and they were married on July 9, 1950 and lived for several years in the Wolseley area of Winnipeg. In 1954 they purchased a house in Fort Garry where they lived for 51 years and raised their family. In 2003 they moved to Charleswood to be closer to their grandchildren.
After the war Art became an electrical apprentice with Kummen-Shipman Electric and earned his journeyman ticket. In the late Fifties he secured a job with federal government practicing his electrical trade with the Department of Public Works. In the late seventies Dad became a property officer for the federal government.
During the early war years Dad worked for his father doing odd jobs which included recycling agricultural steam engines, landscaping and cutting cordwood. During this time he made his first trip to Kenora and fell in love with what was to become Manitoba’s cottage country. In the middle part of the 1950’s, he and his brothers Del and Ed built one of the first cottages on the North shore of Falcon Lake. The brothers convinced their father Joseph to build a cottage on the adjacent property. One by one the bothers sold their share of the cottage. In 1971 Joe Bourdon passed away and his cottage was left to Art. Art loved the cottage at Falcon Lake and he and Marion spent a great deal of their retirement enjoying “the lake”. Dad was just happy just being there. He will be sorely missed by those closest to him.
Funeral Liturgy will be Celebrated on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church, 4588 Roblin Boulevard @ Grant Avenue, with Rev. Msgr. Maurice Comeault, P.H., presiding. Burial will follow in Glen Lawn Cemetery, 455 Lagimodiere Boulevard.

Whether it was parasailing in Mexico, enjoying the beaches of Hawaii, or touring the countryside of Ireland and Scotland, she could always be counted on to be a welcome, fun, and faithful travelling companion.
A gifted cook, Eileen’s creations couldn’t be bettered by the best chefs, and were absolute masterpieces. Whether it was her famous blueberry kuchen or prized pastry, everyone who had the pleasure of a sample, was indeed fortunate.
A dedicated and strong-willed woman, Eileen and Bob lovingly built a cottage on Nora Lake, where they spent their summers appreciating nature’s gifts and the great friends they made there.  When not summering at the cottage, Bob and Eileen spent a number of years wintering in Phoenix where they made even more friends, all of which they have always been grateful for. Her love and passion for her children and grandchildren, and life in general was undeniable and unconditional.
A Celebration of Eileen’s Life will be held Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at the Canad Inns, 1824 Pembina Hwy between 1 and 4 p.m.
A real trooper, Eileen valiantly fought Alzheimer’s successfully for a number of years before finally succumbing at her home, with her loving family by her side.
The family extends the kindest thanks to the care and support workers who helped so much over recent months.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.

ELMA “ELIZABETH” DOYLE
(nee TOEWS)

On Sunday, June 2, 2013 Elma passed away peacefully after a brief illness, in Winnipeg, at age 85.  She is survived by her son, Richard (Jen); brother Albert (Joan); brother Alan (Marie); as well as her brother-in-law Richard (Judy) and their family in Australia, and many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her loving husband Graeme; parents John and Helen and brother Bud.
Elma was a retired nurse who worked in Canada and the US, and a long time employee of Great-West Life after she retired from nursing.  She enjoyed walking in gardens and listening to music, and taking in movies and theatre with Richard and Jen.  Elma loved animals, especially her “grandkitty”, Lily, who was adopted from the WHS in 2002.
In keeping with Elma's wishes, there will be no service.  Her ashes will be added to Graeme’s and interred in a niche.
Donations in lieu of flowers to the Winnipeg Humane Society would be deeply appreciated.

ELIZABETH (BETTY) SURTEES
 (nee Griffiths)

Peacefully on Sunday, June 2, 2013 our sweet mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt, passed away at 89 years young with her family by her side.
Left to cherish Betty’s memory are her son James Surtees (Lynn); daughters Jo-Anne Palmer (Ray), Carole Corbett (Ian) and Liz Welligan (Grant); grandchildren Michael, Adrienne (Phil), Jamie (Stephanie), Greg, Stephen, Neil (Diana) and Jeffrey and 8 great-grandchildren who she loved dearly. She was predeceased by her infant son David; husband Bert; and brother Jim Griffiths.
Mom had a great outlook on life despite her blindness and dementia in later years.  She was always gracious and appreciative.  She spent a lifetime of giving to others. Mom served in the Canadian Women’s Army Corps during WW2.  Mom enjoyed her many friends, volunteer work with Nearly New, sewing for her daughters, needle work, reading, bridge club, golf, curling, bowling and archery.  She loved her travels throughout the United States, Mexico and Europe.  Our Mother was selfless, always thinking of the needs of others before her own, even in her last hours.  Her home was filled with love and beautiful surroundings.  She loved her new home at West Park Manor and we are so thankful for the loving care she received there.
A Private Interment will be held in Fort Frances, ON.
Should friends so desire, contributions can be made to West Park Manor or a charity of choice.

ALINE MARTIN
 (nee CHIASSON)

Quietly, between one breath and the next, Mom passed from this world into the welcoming peace of Heaven on Tuesday, June 4, 2013, in her 84th year.
Aline is survived by her daughters Maureen, of Winnipeg, and Barbara (partner Paul, and daughter Britt) of Selkirk. She is also survived by her brothers Guy of Victoria, Richard of Val Belein, QC; sister Yolande of Montreal; many nieces and nephews; and very dear friend Rosa, of Sault Ste. Marie, ON. She was predeceased by her husband Bill; parents Arsene and Emilienne; siblings Emile, Pat, Helen, Stella, Wilfred, and Marcel.
In 1929, Mom was born in Rogersville, NB. She was raised with an attitude of hard work, dedication to family, and steadfast faith in God. She sang in the choir at church, helped out on the farm or in the store, cared for grandparents and siblings to the best of her ability.  She loved to tell the story of picking potato bugs and collecting them in jars to earn money to go to the fair. Mom hated bugs.
Mom trained as a nurse, and RN diploma in hand, headed for Montreal. Over her forty-odd years in nursing, she worked every aspect of the profession, from ER to private nursing to long-term care. And she worked in several provinces, finally retiring in Sault Ste. Marie, ON.
It was while working in Montreal that Mom and Dad met. He didn't speak French, so Mom was called in to translate since she could speak English. Dad was smitten and asked for her phone number. Aline and Bill Martin were married from July 14, 1959 until Dad's death January 1, 2001.
Funeral Liturgy will be Celebrated on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at 9:45 a.m. in St. Paul the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 2400 Portage Avenue with Rev. Fr. José Eduardo Medeiros, presiding. Entombment will follow in Assumption Roman Catholic Cemetery, 3990 Portage Avenue.  A reception in the church hall will follow the Entombment.
A special thank you to Rev. Fr. José Eduardo Medeiros and Jo Cork for the support of Mom, to the 3South staff at Grace Hospital for their patience, kindness and compassion, to the Saturday crew at San Vito Coffee, especially Brett and Marissa, for indulging and spoiling Mom, and to Lori, Heather, Candace, Rona, and all the St. Paul the Apostle family for their love and prayers and continued support of Mom through her illness.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, a non-perishable food item be brought to the Church for Winnipeg Harvest, or a donation be made to the charity of your choice.

An oft repeated conversation with Mom:

Mom - But how can there be enough room for all the souls in heaven?
Maureen - God is God; he can do anything.
Mom - But every soul that ever lived? That's a lot of souls. Is there a big room somewhere, or does everyone have their own room? How does it work?
Maureen - Good question, I have no idea. You should ask when you get there.
Mom - Oh, I have a lot of questions, you better believe it!

Well, Mom, now all your questions have been answered!
